Before I begin the next segment, I'm going to ask you to indulge me a bit with a little holiday story.

I was in the office one day around Thanksgiving, talking with my friend Paul about Christmas gifts. He mentioned that Ray, his 75 year-old father-in-law who is a passionate fly fisherman, always gets the few obligatory “grandfather giftsâ€

Joel,
How do you hold the strips now, or are you still using that hole you drilled at the beginning?

I had gotten a little ahead of you and thought that when you bound up the strips for heat treating that you had glued them up. To hollow them out do you use a super mini adz?

Ron

Hey, Ron,

You're right, I glossed over a couple of steps. I've amended the text a bit and added another photo to answer your questions.

Hollowing is one of the best features of the MHM. It's done with a radial cutter that "scallops" the inner apex (pith side) of the strips. More on that process in the next segment.
