The LHS Fly Fishing Club would be honored to host the ffim mid-winter conclave, SuperBoo, for the seventh time.

This year, the facility is available on February 6th, Saturday, the day before the SuperBowl.

Doors will open at 8 am.

Anyone and everyone who is interested in casting cane rods or just casting tales is welcome. Admission is, as always, free. You do not have to bring bamboo to take part, but any and all split cane rods are welcome; the generosity of anglers in sharing their cane is what makes this such a great event.

We'll post more details as they emerge,

Kat and Hutch

Excellent! FFIM is proud to be associated with this wonderful event hosted by the Lawrence Jr. High FF Club.

I've put up a "Facebook" event page for this -- to let even more folks know about it. If you are on Facebook -- RSVP here (just look for a post re: Superboo VII):

www.facebook.com/flyfishinginmaine.com

Kat/Hutch -- if you have a design/logo you come up with for this year's event -- let me know and I'll add it to that event page - and the one on FFIM, www.flyfishinginmaine.org/superboo/

Hope to see everyone at the upcoming Holiday gathering on 12/6!

-Dan

With a little bit of luck several members of Project Healing Waters will attend Super 'Boo VII this Feb. Partially due to their interest in fly fishing, new interest in bamboo rods thanks to some generous folks from the classic fly rod forum who taught the class on rod making and because they were invited when I spoke with the founder of Project Healing Waters Ed Nicholson CAPT USN (Ret) as Project Healing Waters will be the recipient of the Classic Fly Rod Forum Rod that was given to me by Argentine rod maker Marcelo Calviello. More information will follow as it becomes available.

Hi,

Wouldn't hurt - we rarely have extras at the door since they're ordered from the kids' school account.

We started another thread for orders :-)

Will there be furled leaders at the event? Perhaps the kids (or someone ) could demonstrate the process.

New news :-)

David (Van Burgel) will be bringing a lathe and installing a ferrule for 1Weight (Ron). There's not a lot of rood to watch, but it's fun to see how it's done if you've never had the chance!

How it'll look:

Just met with Hutch to finalize things. Here's how we'll set the place up.

The gym will be for the bamboo rods and things related.

The event is free, but we will ask again for a sign-in at the door with a contact phone # or email, just in case you lose something, win something, or that kind of thing. No one else gets this info, btw.

Door prizes!! For those who sign in (everyone), we'll draw names for LL Bean Chest packs, a handmade Carrie Stevens doll, and other neat things.

In the gym, there will be rod racks and posters for those allowing their rods to be cast (David and I will). Color coded lobster bands will be available by rod length, and match the posters, so you can compare all the 7-ft rods, say, and then check to see the taper and maker.

The floor will be marked off with cones for casting lanes. Casters will enter from the far side of the gym and walk up the vacant lane to the centerline to cast... to save the rods with those lines whipping around, no one will enter or exit along the center line. This seems to work pretty well.

David Van Burgel and Ron/1Weight will be at the lathe, ferruling Ron's rod - spectators welcomed.

Banjo, Jeff, and Michael will have some items on display that will give us all more insight into bamboo rods, their history, their value, and those accessory items we all love like reels, etc.

Banjo et al will present the Project Healing Waters donation rod.

Many rodmakers and collectors will be wandering about.

Feel free to bring in rods for appraisal and repair advice.

Videos, etc, of cane will also be in the gym itself.

In the lobby,

there will be a LHS Fly Fishing Club table for picking up your pre-ordered t-shirt.

Matt will have his delicious coffee.

The LHS Fly Fishing Club will also be raffling the wonderful Michael Hackney reel, the Phil Sousa wooden rod case, and the bamboo net, to help raise money for their club (the once a year trip to Grand Lake Stream gets no school funding).

FFIM will have Mystery Grand Prize raffle tickets (and the cat will be out of the bag by then).

The Maine TU Trout Camp will have Joel Anderson's well-documented rod to raffle, the Payne 101, 2 piece, two tip, 7.5', #5, hollowbuilt

Kennebec Valley TU will unveil the maps by Dick Behr of the entire Kennebec drainage, and have them available!

There will be a place to post your cards or flyers of For Sale items.

There will be tables for swap items and free food donations (the kids will not sell food this year).

At least, that's the plan!!!

Kat
