........”it ain’t over till it’s over”.

Yeah....well, it’s damned close to being over. The first word that comes to mind......at least for me......for my fall fishing this year is WIND! Freaking, unrelenting wind.

As yesterday looked to be a decent day, and the water was at a good level for wading......I headed north at daybreak. Using Hutch’s theory.......I only saw one turkey; two deer; and no Moose.

I had heard the river was fishing well. Perhaps.......but not for me yesterday. Two Brook Trout on Nymphs, and I rolled a really nice Landlock that came unbuttoned fairly quickly in a five hour day of fighting ridiculous wind. I’d heard that there were a lot of bright salmon in.......but that LL I rolled I saw clearly........it was dark and looked more like a fall Brown than a LL.

I’m guessing that it may now be time to take all the gear out of the back of the Jeep, and get serious about tying for next summer. The Nymph box is looking a little light on PT’s and large wired Stone Nymphs.......along with Pink Glo Bugs.

There were no Tiny Olives that came off where I was.......so I’m guessing that hatch is about over.

After five hours in water down in the very low 40’s I couldn’t feel my feet or lower legs.......and was stumbling around like a drunk out there. Thank goodness for wading staffs.

For me, at least, the 2018 season may be in the books.

I hear you Dave. I've been headed north for the past month, but weather killed it. I'm going to have to settle on a couple of trips to western Mass. Although with all this rain even that's tough fishing. I have some new bamboo that I'm waiting to give a try on water, not the lawn.
