Nasty buggers. Yard work yesterday. Rash today.
I'm fortunate to not be affected by these bugs. I planted birds at a bird dog event a few weeks back and remember seeing the catepillar fibers blowing down out of the trees around me, glistening in the sun. Others doing the same broke out with pretty nasty rashes. Thankfully, nothing to report on my end.
Blue Ribbon Flies out in Montana touts a spruce moth dry fly pattern that works wonders when the spruce moths are hatching out that way. That moth looks pretty similar to our browntails- so that pattern may work well in the Midcoast right now. If water temps (and river levels) were more favorable- I'd give them a go. A white muddler for bass might be an option though.
