I need to tie a leader for my 8wt intermediate line, anyone have a formula? Not sure if it's best to go long like I would with a floating line or short like a sinking line, or somewhere in between.

I use 2 feet of 30 lb mono, 2 feet of 25 lb mono, then 3 feet of 15 lb....seems to work pretty well for me.

I think its hard to go wrong as long as you keep things relatively short.

I don't buy Flourocarbon for my saltwater fishing.

Thanks, I'll have to pick up some 30 pound and try it. Last year I almost exclusively used a sink tip with 36" of straight 15 pound, but knew I'd need a tapered one for the intermediate.

I start with a piece of 40 lb and tie down from there. Intermediate and floating I tend to go longer 7.5+ for intermediate and I do 11 or so with floater as I use a switch rod from shore so what I was told was tie a leader the length of your rod. I was landing 30 inch+ fish with a 11 ft leader tied down to 10 lb fishing a floater using gurglers then switched to big streamers but cut the leader back to the 15 lb section bringing me down to a 9.5 ft leader to turn over the bigger streamer I was using better. Sink tiles just use 3-4 ft of 20-15 lb for my intermediate I generally do the same converted to a 7.5 ish size leader
