Me too! We've got 24 so far. Come on people, it's painless. You don't even have to make your email address public.

Doug (or whomever else):

What is the rationale for a 36 inch limit, as opposed to the existing 40" trophy fish, or some other alternative?

My concern is that (1) this puts a lot more fish into the legal category than a 40 inch limit would; and (2) like the 40 inch limit, it focuses all the recreational mortality on fish that are likely to be spawning females.

I like the idea of reducing mortality from us recreational guys, but I want to make sure this proposal would really do that.

I'm just guessing, but I bet that in Maine, the largest component of striper mortality is from C+R, and for that reason I strongly support the requirement for circle hooks. I'm not sure I understand the tube lure exemption, though.

I see the effort for regulation change as a measure to improve the Kennebec River stock and therein lies the problem, there is no meaningful data available on Kennebec River Striped bass populations. Sometimes you just have to use common sense. Science will come someday, but not soon. We can’t be wasting seasons waiting for long over due science. We do need to do something to help. It doesn’t cost DMR anything to impose new regulations. If the Cheesy stock continues to be problematic and the Kennebec stock isn’t improved soon, we won’t have a striped bass fishery left. We need to protect the younger fish that exist in the Kennebec so they can become spawners. It takes years to accomplish these goals and we need to get started. Either 1@36â€

Doug -- I see the signatures have grown --- great work with this.

Still lots more out there to sign though -- I'll post this on the main (freshwater) forum here at FFIM too...

I'm planning to be at the Scoping meeting coming up in Scarborough...anybody else here going to make it?

Thanks,
Dan
