Abel just released its new Super Series. They took what they're best known for - silky smooth cork drag system and virtually indestructible frame - and modernized it. For the gear heads/gear junkies here, check out the evolution of the Super Series:

I just went to Abels new site to check out the Super Series.

While I was there I learned that all of the able reels I own (3models) are now discontinued, at least as far as I can tell.

Making gear obsolete on a regular basis is no way to sell $800 + reels.

Able has always made really nice stuff. I wont be buying any more of it. Not cool.

I absolutely agree. All of my "lifetime" Abels are now obsolete......supposedly.
IMO, a "lifetime" on a $600+ dollar reel is not five years.

My Abels were all made in California by the Steve and Gina Able led Abel.......Abel was bought out and now only the name remains.

The new Abel is pricing themselves out of the market for all but the top 5% of wage earners......and pissing off us loyal Abel buyers/users in the process. I bought my first Abel Big Game #2 in 1992, and my last Super 4N four years ago. I seriously doubt I'll be getting another.

BTW.....there is absolutely nothing wrong with cork drags. Lube them once a season and they're fine......no need for a "sealed" drag as on the new ones.

IMO, Abel has really reverted from #1 reel maker back into the pack. Too bad...I have a lot of Abel reels, their tying vise, and several pieces of their luggage.
