2015 ushers in new Va. rock fishing coastal regulations

Jan. 1, 2015 marked the new regulations for striped bass fishing in Virginia coastal waters. Anglers are permitted to catch 1 fish per person, 28 inches or above.

Still allowing harvest of 2 small (<28") fish within Chesapeake Bay. I don't know how you manage a single stock of fish that migrates with a mish-mash of different size and bag limits in different places.

What's happening with commercial quotas? I believe the recreational kill is larger than the legal commercial take, but everybody should be sharing the pain.

And then there is all the illegal commercial fishing. A few years ago on my birthday at a fancy Portland restaurant I was offered "local wild-caught striped bass". I didn't order it, and when I asked about the source someone came out from the kitchen and told me it was farm raised. (Which I suppose would make both "local" and "wild-caught" lies . . . )
