I am heading to Cancun this Saturday (10/01/11) for a week. I was thinking about taking my 7 wt rod with the 300 grain sink tip line with me to Cancun and try fishing the surf in the early mornings.....

Am I wasting my time or do I stand a chance at catching some fish? Any feedback you have is appreciated. Especially in regards to what flies to purchase.

Have an awesome day!

I don't know for sure, but that's what I'd be thinking. They school up and cruise the trough all summer long. The 7 is about right, but try bring a floating or intermediate as well.

It would be worth bringing an intermediate line too if you have one.

I fish snook in Florida ( when I get to go...) I would recommend and intermediate over a floater- and fluoro, fluoro, fluoro.

ZG-

Long time ago, and I don't get on here often: had I, I would have said rent a jeep, go south almost two hours to Boca Paila, and sight fish for bones and permit. Really good, and while I saw guys bridge fishing right in Cancun, this trip south was definitely worth doing.

Anyhoo, hope you had fun. If nothing else, there's always Senor Frogs.
