Back aways it was popular to tie casting size streamers with calftail instead of bucktail. It was sometimes hard to find calftail long enough for streamers and it has to be hand stacked but the result was thought to be worth the trouble.
Calftail was said to carry air bubbles that would trail out behind the streamer during a retrieve, had more body and so wrapped around the shank less and moved more water making vibrations a fish could pick up on.
I have to agree it wraps around the hook shank less when casting but I wouldn't bet much on the other two.
Anyway, I still tie a lot of my casting streamers with calftail and was wondering if others do?

I use calftail on some casting-sized streamers, but have to admit- unless the calftail is being used to support a wing of something else (ala a hornberg or kennebago muddler) I've been leaning more towards tying my smaller casting streamers with arctic fox tail. I stocked up on a bunch from a west coast source a while back and absolutely love tying with the stuff. You can find it in a bunch of colors- and one 1/2 tail will last a LONG time.

I’m not much of a streamer tier, but when I do tie them I prefer marabou. Fir your question, if use bucktail; e g Clouser Minnows

I have used calf tail for wings on Royal Coachman wet flies and small pond streamers, never on flies like Black Nose Dace which I do tie and fish often in the early season. This season I did change up the black stripe on my Dace patterns with Black Bear Hair instead of Bucktail, looks pretty good to me.

That is a great pattern!! Hey Bucktail tastes better   , but calf tail lasts longer, holds up better than bucktail
