I vote for everything Hutch and Reardon said. My daughter lives in Driggs, ID (heart of the Tetons) (and used to live in Bozeman) and therefore we've made many trips out there via vehicle and plane both.

Cooke City and the Bear Tooths are definitely worth the drive from Yellowstone (you'll want to get some crowd relief anyway). The National Forests are quite a bit cheaper and in many ways, equally family-worthy.

For non-fishing family members, the Grand Targhee Resort (In Wyoming, but accessed via Driggs, ID) offers lift rides to an incredible vista of the Jedidiah Smith Wilderness Areas. You can also rent Mtn bikes, access trails, etc. The small town of Driggs itself has eclectic eateries, fly shops and more. Its only an hour from Jackson Hole. Stones throw from the Teton, Henry's Fork, etc. Driggs to Tower Junction, WY (east entrance to Yellowstone) is about 5 1/2 hours.

You'll have lots of fun and the kids are are great ages to remember!!
