I’m Dave, and I admit I have a very unhealthy attachment to my flies. If I tied them, they should work.....period. In my mind, at least. In reality.....not always.

Yesterday I went down to the tying room and grabbed my Streamer box. It’s a generic C&R with a leaf in the middle. I haven’t ever actually counted how many slots there are, but it’s a ####load. Since I tie virtually all my Streamers weighted, that box is significantly heavy.

Last yeR, I took my Nymph box and jettisoned all the Nymphs I had been carrying around for the last twenty years, and never, or almost never, actually tied to a tippet.

Yesterday, I did the same to my streamer box. I must have jettisoned four dozen flies.

After watching Kelly Galloup videos a couple of years ago I went on an articulated streamer jag, and tied up a bunch of huge flies......that have never gotten wet. Out of the box they went.

Next....?i almost never ( any more) visit Brook Trout ponds.......so a dozen and a half Red & White Bucktails got the heave ho.

Flies that had gotten chewed up and didn’t look good any longer went into the trash. Most of those were tied on Mustad 9672 hooks......and I’ll be damned if I spend a lot of time trying to rescue a .07 cent hook.

I then re-arranged the flies by some semblance of color. My streamer colors are primarily black, Olive, yellow, and white, and most are in three styles. Egg Sucking Flash a Buggers........Gartside Soft Hackle Streamers......and Clouser Minnows.......with a few specific other patterns thrown in, like Crawdad flies for Smallmouth.

That box now looks significantly better. Now the challenge will be the dry fly box.

I’m tempted to make a Mayfly box and a Caddis box, but I carry too many flyboxes now. Adding to that probably isn’t a smart idea, but with over 300 dries in my DeWitt box it can sometimes be a problem to actually find the damn fly I want.

As my beloved Giants suck big water this year, and aren’t on TV today anyway, it’s looking like a good day for walking my daily four miler, and tying dry flies.

PS: And before you ask........I started watching pro football before the BOSTON Patriots even existed......when the NY Giants were New England’s team

Interesting... kind of like cleaning out the garage and closets at home. If you haven't used it in two years, or seen it in one, out it goes. It's good for your mental health to do this. It only hurts for a bit.
