On Saturday I did what might be my last big Downeast trip of the season - I fished 4 streams and had modest luck on three of them - in spite of a pretty good rain the night before, conditions were optimal on 3 streams and a bit high on the last - most of the brookies I caught were of the sea run variety, landed below or just above the head of tide - I get the impression that the inland brookies still haven't spread themselves out yet - the most satisfying part of the day was that 2 of the locations, one requiring some paddling and another requiring a good walk, were new to me and I managed to catch fish at both - kinda like cracking a tough hatch...another notable observation was that the alewives didn't seem nearly as thick as they usually are about this time - I came up with a few scales here & there, but no massive schools...tiny mayflies were in the air everywhere and on one stream the rocks were also covered with tiny black stoneflies, but as usual, no risers - all fish came to small streamers or a glass BH, soft hackle nymph - I didn't see another fisherman all day, and on 3 streams I didn't even see a sign of any human beings at all...my wife packed me off with all kinds of good munchies so even the long drives between spots were more pleasant than usual - hard to believe it's already time to start looking north...Tight Lines!

Nice report Brian. I'm hoping to head that way Saturday afternoon for some fishing on Saturday evening/Sunday AM. It's time to let the buggers out of the box and give them a swim. Hopefully the fish cooperate.

Sounds like another great outing. And as with all your jaunts nice looking water.
You didn’t happen to see any caddis flitting about. Getting to be that time of year.

Thanks guys!
David, that's an excellent idea - if I wasn't going to be someplace else, I'd prolly be there - any reasonable prospect should produce.
Ron, no sign of any adult caddis - is your email still the same?

Brian yes it is. Incoming works outgoing on my end sometimes slow due to human interaction or lack there of.
