Had a conference on Captiva Island last week and managed to take an afternoon off and get some fishing in. We left from the Punta Rassa boat ramp and headed north a few miles. Second cast got a 28" Snook. While that turned out to be the big fish of the day, I still landed about 20 more fish and saw some big Reds and Snook. Good guide and nice boat. This is a short video from one of the creeks.

You lucky dog! The last places I had the opportunity to go for conferences were places like Cincinnati & St. Louis...hopefully, before too long, I'll be able to start spending some time at our retirement property, which is about 2.5 miles from there...what were you using for flies?

On sanibel their is a nice fly shop "Norm Zeigler's Fly Shop" I believe Norm told me his brother owns Mooselys bagals in Rangeley. Small world.

That makes sense - I believe Norm is the originator of a very effective snook pattern called the Schminnow - I'm dyin' to get down into some of those mangroves with my kayak - think spring!

I got set up with the guide through Norm's shop. Nice guy. He spent three years blowing snow at Sugarloaf after getting out of college. Truly a small world. The fly of choice was the schminnow or a variation of it. White deer hair head with eyes to help it get down. Long white tail red body and a little flash in there just to piss the fish off. Very similar to Bass fishing up here.

Yes, it is a "small world"...excellent coffee/excellent breakfast...I have patronized that quaint shop, a least once on every fishing trip to Rangeley, for many years.
