All........

Trico fishing just might be my favorite fishing in all of so-called fisherdom. I just freaking love it. The challenge of getting the trout to take your fake fly, when there are tens of thousands of real Spinners floating by his/her nose, is just so damned cool.

There are a few things that you can do to level the playing field in your favor.......and one of them is to appeal to the greed of the trout. Why should he rise to one little Trike, when for the same effort he can get two?

That’s why I tie a Double Trico. Take a #18 dry fly hook (e.g. Tiemco 100)......tie on your extended tail.......for Thread I use white Veevus 16/0..."....for the abdomen, tie on your white z-Lon for the rear wing, figure eight black Superfine dubbing (sparse!) around the wing........advance the thread for the front abdomen, tie on another z-Lon wing and black thorax, then whip finish. Two #22 Trike Spinners on one #18 hook.

Another advantage of this is you can now tie on 18” of 6X and put on a #20 short shank bh Sunken Spinner. Just a great combination.

It can, truth be told, be a bit tricky to work your thread around two z- lon Wings........so you do have to be somewhat delicate, but the final product is well worth the effort.

Dave M

PS: Tied up half a dozen of these yesterday in the storm, going to tie up another half dozen today after I get in from scraping down the driveway and walkway.

Great tip. Gotta tie up a mess of those.
This must be why the griffiths gnat is so great as well. A ball of scrumptious midges for those pigs.
