Man, I fish a number of Caddis patterns but my go to is either the Swisher's Caddis or the Bloom's Caddis. They're very similar and fish can't resist them. Go with a light colored body in size 12 and you have a wonderful Spruce Moth imitator as well.

I find that very little beats a cdc caddis, biot body and spikey sparkly thorax

MM........

I must admit I’d never heard of a Blooms Caddis. I watched the videos deo, and I like it. Do you counterwrap small wire on the PT body? It seems that if not, the PT would be cut and unwrap the first time a trout’s teeth cut it. I’m tying up a dozen today. Thanks.

Dave, yes, counter wrap with thin wire. I prefer thin wire over the gold cord that some use to wrap hare's ears or Princes.

Art Bloom guided out of Trout Shop for a long time and last I knew, works out of Mike Bushly's fly shop located in Cascade. I feel a little bad because I seldom stop in Cascade and Bushly is a good dude. Bloom also ties an ant that I've long liked. IMO the half red/half black body Blooms Para Ant is a very hard fly to beat if a fella is searching with a dry and a small nymph.

I don't know if you have run across the Spruce Moth hatch. I hit it every year on Rock Creek at the end of July and then again in early August on the Big Hole. It's a blast to fish with a light colored size 10 or 12 Swisher Caddis.
