Below is the text of a status report for our stream temp monitoring activities...

FFIM Stream Temp Monitoring Report
NOVEMBER, 2018
In July of 2017, FFIM obtained and deployed 3 in-stream temperature monitoring devices (Onset Computer Corp. HOBO TidbiT data loggers), which were placed in 3 Downeast streams. Last month (October, 2018), the data loggers were visited and the data that they had recorded was downloaded to a portable data collector (Shuttle). From there the data was brought into town and downloaded to a PC where it could be processed – the final product was a CSV document that was then uploaded to the SHEDS (Spatial Hydro-Ecological Decision System) Stream Temperature Database website.
SHEDS was created by a consortium of researchers for viewing, downloading, uploading and managing stream temperature data across the northeastern U.S. There are currently 73 agencies managing 6885 monitoring stations across the northeast. Once temperature data is uploaded to the SHEDS website it is available to any other agencies that need stream temperature data for any reason. SHEDS is funded by a diverse group of organizations such as MassDOT, Eastern Brook Trout Venture and the USGS.
On the 18th of this month, FFIM deployed a fourth data logger in another Downeast stream. In the near future we will be sharing some insights already gained thru the data collected thus far and maybe even some guessing games concerning important stream temperature benchmarks. Anyone can visit the SHEDS website, which, thankfully is a lot more intuitive than the average government operated website. In the public section of the website, the user can choose locations and look at the temperature data for any listed streams. The website can be accessed here:
http://db.ecosheds.org/
Please have a look and see if any of your favorite streams are listed. FFIM would like to thank all of the community members who supported our various fund raising efforts that made this project (and many others) possible. We would also like to thank the dedicated folks at the USF&WS and NOAA who gave us a huge amount time and technical assistance!
