On Saturday I took a casual drive up river to fish one of my favorite spots - a place where the river splits up into braided channels and creates an area of gravelly flats in the middle that's bisected by deep channels and drop offs - it was a perfectly idyllic afternoon - very user friendly flows, cool water & great weather - maybe a bit too nice...as usual I had the whole place to myself - the bass were biting as well as could be expected on a bright, sunny day - I ended up landing about a dozen, including a few corkers, but the real treat for the day was the Atlantic Salmon I landed - I hooked him in a deep, slow gravel bottomed pool where I expected to find a mess of bass, but as soon as I saw that swoosh over my fly, I knew it was no bass...after 2 acrobatic leaps and a short but wild fight I had him by the tail - we then had another knock-down, drag-out in the middle of the river - I snapped 2 poor photos in my rush to get him released - how I wished I had my GoPro...he ended up being about 30" long and prolly went around 10 - 12 lbs, a beautiful fish...needless to say I was jazzed for the rest of the day - what a great river! Tight Lines!

People travel far and spend a ton of money to catch the "fish of a thousand casts". Great that you could catch one in Maine!!

Nice two sea winter fish Brian. If you were fishing where I think you were fishing, and given the low returns and the fact that only about 6 fish have passed Weldon Dam as of September 10th, that fish is truly a rarity. Hopefully it finds good water and spawns successfully.

Pretty wild to get a salmon, striper and small mouth all on the same stretch. Good for you!!!
