I need to tie a bunch of wet style Caddis emergers using Partridge feathers. I shopped online at a number of shops and pretty much all of the skins run about $35-$40 each, Orvis was $46. I checked with Alvin Theriault in S. Patten and bought one of his select skins for a whopping $12.95 plus shipping. Good grief it's a beautiful skin and easily 4-5 of my lifetimes worth of feathers.

I just want to remind everyone he's up there and his prices and quality are excellent.

Is it “Maine Partridge” aka ruffed grouse or Hungarian?

Wow. Seems pricey... maybe a shortage on the market? I don’t think I have ever notice grouse skins priced the same as Hungarian Partridge.

I googled Grouse skins and most were in the $35 range.

I have always found materials I get from Alvin Therriault to be of high quality and a very fair price. If you have not been into his shop in Patten, you should make it a point to go some time when you are heading up Route 11.

I've still got a handful of Ruffed Grouse skins from last season (all cured/dried) if anyone's interested.
