All........

Some of us tie flies at least as often as we go fishing, perhaps even more.

I just saw on FB a Vemio video put up by Annika Rod and Fly by Dyna King about cleaning your tying vise.

I was just looking at mine (not a Dyna King but an Abel Supreme) and thinking about how dirty it was. I haven’t gotten around to cleaning it in the last several years or thereabouts, so I think I’ve got a project for today. I’ve always used special brass cleaner and polisher, but Dyna King recommends WD-40.......so I think I’ll try that.

I was actually thinking about sending it back to Abel for a complete overhaul, but don’t want to be without my vise for the several weeks it would take to do that. I’m not known for being very handy, but I think I can accomplish this. ( Hopefully!)

In my opinion, which is generally worthless, cleaning a vise would be like cleaning a fishing hat. Bad JuJu.

No, Al.

I clean my vise at least semi regularly. Oil and grease the damn thing, too. I want that sucker working as well as 5he day I brought it to my tying bench, going on twenty years ago now. When I spend the d’argant for a so-called “lifetime” vise I want that sucker to actually last until they come and put me into the “old folks home”......hopefully still a lot of years away.

I actually wash my hats, too. Bug dope, sweat, fish slime, etc.make for a damned smelly hat. Sartorially splendid when Fishing I’m not........but I don’t want to gross out either myself or 5he people I fish with.
(Insert very big grin here)

I finished up cleaning and lubeing the vise, and while it doesn’t look as good as the day I took it out of the box.......it looks a helluva lot better than it did two hours ago. ;-)

I’ve heard tell that WD-40 also works as a fish attractant. The can used to say that.

Damn, my vise really was dirty. I bought it 24 years ago and over time forget the brand. Well I cleaned it up and I'll be damned it's an Abel-Renzetti-Thompson Flyer. All this time I thought it was a Dyna-king. Thanks Dave.
