On Friday I headed back up into another upper corner of the Penobscot watershed and visited my favorite stream in the state - could be my favorite stream in the galaxy for that matter - great scenery, great fish, loads of memories with dear friends, been fishing it since I was in college...I don't usually fish it until the second Saturday of June or later but in light of the dropping, warming water I figured I had better get up there, and I'm glad that I did - water temp at mid day was 66* and the chubs were taking over - I had a fine day of fishing and catching, along with landing my biggest brookies of the season, but it was definitely not on parr (<fish humor...) with previous seasons - there were several species of caddis and mayflies hatching when I arrived but as usual, the only risers were dinks and chubs - once again wildlife was sparse - saw 3 moose and still no bears - my gear and tires held up, so all round it was a bully outing, I just hope that this cool trend will prolong things for a bit longer than they seem to be going - I'll be heading up into the St. John Valley this Friday, so maybe water will be cooler & higher yet...lots of good trip reports rolling in - keep'em coming & tight lines!

I'm headed up that way today with my usual fishing partner and will be fishing that water. Thankful there has been a little rain and cooler temps forecasted.
