The Feather Thief by Kirk Wallace is a non-fiction book about the theft of exotic and rare bird feathers from the British museum. It also concerns the history of feather collection, the decimation of bird populations due to fashion (much like the Tulip craze in 16 century Holland) and the use of exotic feathers in tying classic Salmon flies. In addition, the obsession of certain tiers with rare species and tying with the "original" feather recipes is described.

If you have any interest in the history of tying or what the community of obsessive salmon fly tiers is like I strongly suggest the book

Sounds great, just ordered it from my library. Looking for something good to read up north Memorial Day weekend.
