First female Hummer showed up at the feeders today. May 15th......A week after the males showed up.

Since relocating the feeder in front of the double windows in our living room we have been seeing them a lot, in fact, there is a female on the feeder as I type this. I think they may have a nest in a cedar tree near by, the pair are constantly going between the feeder and the tree.

I had at least a dozen feeding on my Asian pear bush tonight. The most I’ve ever seen getting along around food. Pretty neat to watch. And a busy flight pattern as they buzzed between where ever and the Asian pear.

Some of you in Western Maine may from time to time listen to FM 93.5, WMWV out of North Conway, NH. They have this cool little short called "Country Ecology with Dave Eastman." Lots of bird talk. Well this week one of the shorts was about Praying Mantis. Remarkably, these fierce insects have been known to prey on hummingbirds!! Incredible fact...and freaking scary insect!
