Hi, Everyone!

A month from today, can't wait :D

For those new to the event, I'll repost below the scoop.

New this year, Maine Rodmaker George Barnes, who left us a few years ago, was a pioneer in the rebirth of rodmaking. He wrote down his methods in his book Fly Rods Galore, a title reflecting his droll wit. His publisher (and mine) Ron Barch at Alder Creek has donated 80 copies of that book to be given away free at the Robotics Club table, first come, first served. Ron, whose brother is also a Robotics Club advisor, would be trilled, I'm sure, with any donation made to the kids.

T-shirt design to follow.

Hey, Everyone,

Quick version:

We're fast approaching ffim's mid-winter public conclave, SuperBoo #15

Saturday, February 3, 2018 8am to 3 pm
Lawrence Junior High gym, Fairfield, Maine

Feel free to bring goodies to share, and don't forget enough in your pocket to pick up a commemorative t-shirt.

We'll have the swap / free table set up,

there are five tables of cool presentations volunteered,

and, of course, all those bamboo fly rods so generously shared - as far as I know, there's nothing else like this anywhere.

See everyone soon,

Kat (and David and Hutch)

LONGER Version:

SuperBoo 2018:

Saturday, February 3rd
from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
same site: Lawrence Junior High gym, Fairfield (see map)

As always, anyone and everyone who is interested in casting cane rods or just casting tales is welcome. Admission is, as always, free. You do not have to bring bamboo to take part, but any and all split cane rods are welcome; the generosity of anglers in sharing their cane is what makes this such a great event. Thanks to Kennebec Valley Trout Unlimited for joining FFIM in sponsoring this event.

Lawrence Junior High is located just off the freeway in Fairfield, exit 132 (map below)
We appreciate the LJHS Robotics for opening the school's doors to us. Remember, t-shirt sales go to the kids as a thank you, and are used to pay for the Robotics Club's activities, entry fees for meets, etc.

We'll post more details as they emerge, and a t-shirt (or whatever) thread.

Much of SB will be the same as in years past:

Bamboo rods and things related, like collectors with informative displays, will be in the Junior High gym and foyer.
The event is free, but we will ask again for a sign-in at the door with a contact phone # or email, just in case you lose something, win something, or that kind of thing. No one else gets this info, btw.

In the gym, there will be rod racks and posters for those allowing their rods to be cast (the more the merrier). Color coded lobster bands will again be available by line weight, and match the posters, so you can compare all the 5-wt rods, say, and then check to see the taper and maker. Rod owners - just pick up an appropriately colored band for your grip (I write my name on the lobster band, too).

The floor will be marked off with cones for casting lanes. Casters will enter from the far side of the gym and walk up the vacant lane to the centerline to cast... to save the rods with those lines whipping around, no one will enter or exit along the center line. This seems to work pretty well.

Many rodmakers will be wandering about - feel free to ask questions.

Feel free to bring in rods for appraisal and repair advice.

There will be a table for picking up a t-shirt.
There will be a place to post your cards or flyers of For Sale items.
NOTE: Though this is an informational, non-commercial event, private, and incidental sales are okay

There will be tables for swap items.

At least, that's the plan!!!
