75 on a north country pond last night. That's a surface temp at 6 pm, so probably the peak for the day.

These last few warm nights are killing us. Water temps go up every day under the warm sun and high air temps. They drop back down on cool nights, but not when it stays near 70 until dawn.

The bugs were coming off, but the fish weren't much on them. Maybe they were feeding on nymphs in deeper, colder water, but I didn't want to dredge them up from cold water into 75 degrees, so I waited for a rise. Finally took one right at dark.

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm done pond fishing until mid September at the earliest. I'll stick to stripers and my local bass ponds until then. It's been a hot week.

Big cool-off next week with several rounds of rain. Mid 60s - low 70s with nighttime mid 50s. Terrible forecast for a foundation veneer job, but great news for the cold water game. Rain will likely push me right off the job and into a nearby river.
