Yesterday, to celebrate Patriots' Day, I headed to the eastern edge of the state and fished back toward Ellsworth - I was looking to break the longest (catching) dry spell I've experienced in a long time. The weather for the trip was perfect- cool and overcast - and except for the first stream I visited, which was slightly high, flows were ideal and the water was clear.
I got started on the easternmost brown trout stream in the country and had good luck - landed 4 sea run brookies and 1 large sea run brown - he was so sizable that I first wondered if he was a salmon farm escapee...from there I headed to another coastal stream where I missed/lost 3 salters - don't know what happened there...my last stop was a flowage up away from the coast, that I've been fishing since I was kid - I scared up 4 brookies there, the nicest ones of the day, and managed to land 2 - I had every place to my self & saw lots of wildlife up close & personal - peepers were peeping and it's only gonna get better from here on out - I'll be Downeast for the next 2 weekends chasing salters before I turn my sights north...at any rate, it looks like game time - Happy Earth Week & Tight Lines!
