I'm planning on going to the Catskills from June 5-9th of June. Has anyone fished there during that time, if so, what might be some flies I should tie to be prepared? I figured most of the drake patterns as well as the Wulff's as attractors with nymphs or emerges hanging off the back. Any other ideas will be helpful.

Hi Dan,

I know the area semi-well. The hatches are pretty much the same as described in Art Flick's book (which detailed hatches and hatch timing in that area). Water levels should be good this spring- as that area has seen a fair amount of snow of late. As Titleguy indicates- a lot depends on where you'll be fishing- and whether it will be freestone fishing or on one of the many dam/tailwater affected reaches.

Unless you fishing the Deleware, I'd head up to the Adirondacks if you can.

Sorry about that. We'LL be fishing the Willowemoc, Beaver Kill and the East and West Delaware's. We've been there last year, water was extremely low. This year should be a lot better. They just got 30" out of this last storm.

I spend 6 months a year up there. At that time of year you can expect Some March Browns to still be around and some Green Drakes. Drakes are usually around that week but could come early or late depending on Weather. Expect to see bigger olives in early morning and different caddis and Sulphurs will be starting. Grey Foxes should also be around. Good time to be on upper Delaware system.Send me a PM before you leave and I will give you real time on water info.

Andre

Google "Bug Week in the Catskills" It's when you will be there. Best time of year.
